he capital is set to host the 11th Jakarta Fashion and Food Festival (JFFF), which will be held from May 9 until June 1 in Sentra Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
A fashion extravaganza, food festival and Gading Nite festival will be among the highlights of the three-week festival.
JFFF chief Soegianto Nagaria said that the festival would also feature a number of new events.
'We will hold the second Jakarta Wine and Cheese Run, which was inspired by a marathon in France, with the theme 'countries of the world and their carnivals'. Six winners will get the chance to participate in the Marathon du Medoc in Bordeaux, France,' Soegianto said during a festival preview at City Hall on Tuesday.
The 11th edition of the festival will also introduce a new carnival icon, Mat Gading, who will entertain visitors with acrobatic performances.
The food festival will bear the theme 'Pasar Gambir' (Gambir market), with 100 food stalls participating. Visitors will be able to enjoy various famous traditional dishes and snacks from various regions, such as es potong jodoh (traditional popsicle), durian ice-cream, ajo ramon Padang satay and serabi notosuman (traditional pancakes).
The fashion extravaganza will feature the works of well-known fashion designers, namely Ali Charisma, Barli Asmara, Defrico Audy, Didiet Maulana, Itang Yunasz, Lenny Agustin and Musa Widyatmodjo.
Barli said that he would exhibit 40 pieces during the fashion extravaganza. Among the 40 pieces that Barli will showcase are those from his latest Royal Embroidery collection, which incorporates fringe to help emphasize the beauty and elegance of women.
He said his collections targeted socially active women who participated in events such as arisan (social gatherings).
'They want to look good at these events,' he said on the sidelines of the press conference.
Deputy Governor Basuki 'Ahok' Tjahaja Purnama lauded the event, saying that such events would be among tourist attractions that would eventually bring benefits to the capital.
'It's getting better each year and it is promoted well. It's a great event because it provides a place and opportunity for creative people to showcase their talents and products,' he told reporters.
He also pointed out that only selected items could be featured at the festival. (ogi)
