he General Elections Commission (KPU) has decided that presidential candidate Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and his running mate, Jusuf Kalla, will undergo medical examinations on Thursday, while health assessments for the rival candidate pair of Prabowo Subianto and Hatta Rajasa will be conducted the following day.

'It's confirmed that Jokowi-JK [Jusuf Kalla] will undergo health tests on May 22 and Prabowo-Hatta on May 23,' said KPU chairman Sigit Pamungkas in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.

He said the commission's decision to hold health examinations for Jokowi and Kalla on Thursday was based on a request from the candidates. 'We gave them options and they chose [to undertake the examinations] on May 22,' said Sigit.

Earlier, Jokowi and Kalla were reported to have asked the commission to delay their health examinations, which are set to take place at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD), due to their schedules. According to regulations, all candidate pairs should undergo medical checkups one day after registering their candidacy at the KPU.

As the Jokowi-Kalla pair registered on Monday, they should have undergone medical examinations on Tuesday. (dhi/ebf)
