runeian youth should respond to criticism of the implementation of Syariah law with poise and maturity, culture, youth and sports minister Hazair Abdullah said yesterday.
Hazair said Brunei has been under constant criticism from foreign sources on the enforcement of the Syariah Penal Code Order 2013, mostly through social media.
'Bruneians should react with wisdom, intellect, responsibility, cautiousness, respect and politeness, in accordance to the teachings of Islam,' he said.
The minister was addressing youth, who had gathered to express their support to Syariah Penal Code at the launch of a governemnt programme.
He added that young professionals have stood up to defend Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah's decision to implement syariah law by voicing out their support and unwavering stance against criticism, ridicule and scorn that came from outside the country.
However, Hazair advised the youth to be careful when educating others about the Syariah Penal Code Order, and ensure that what was being taught was correct and not confusing. (***)
