resident SusiloBambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to open the Sail Raja Ampat internationalmaritime event on Aug. 22, said West Papua Governor Abraham O. Atururi.
'Sail Raja Ampat was originally scheduled for June 21 but was then postponed to Aug. 22. I have met with President Yudhoyono and asked him to inaugurate the event,' Abraham said on Friday as quoted by Antara news agency.
The governor said that all agencies had committed to making the event a success.
'I will ensure that the President can inaugurate the event on Aug. 22. I have also coordinated with all involved parties, including local and national committees,' Abraham said.
He said the local committee in Waisai, where the event would kick off, had completed work on infrastructure, including roads, transportation and accommodations.
The Sail Raja Ampat marine festival is a regular event held to promote the maritime culture of the communities in Raja Ampat, one of the world's best diving sites.
The festival will feature an underwater photography competition, rowing boat race, canoe race, underwater orientation competition, beach volleyball and local cultural attractions.
