Prabowo won'€™t file lawsuit with Constitutional Court, says lawyer

P

residential candidate pair Prabowo Subianto-Hatta Rajasa'€™s lawyer, Mahendradatta, said on Tuesday that the presidential ticket would not contest the election result at the Constitutional Court (MK) because it did not have a legal basis to do so.

'€œWhy do we have to file a lawsuit with the MK[court]? We don'€™t have a legal standing to do so because the presidential and vice presidential candidates have pulled out from the election process. Only those who are registered as a presidential and vice presidential ticket can file such a lawsuit,'€ Mahendradatta said as quoted by kompas.com at Polonia House in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He said pulling out of the election process did not violate any laws and thus was legally sound.

Prabowo-Hatta campaign team secretary Fadli Zon said the campaign team would announce the next steps it would take following the candidate pair'€™s decision to reject the 2014 presidential election and withdraw from the ongoing election process due to alleged fraud.

'€œOne thing we can say is that we will take our next step without breaching the rules,'€ said Mahendradatta.

On Tuesday afternoon, Prabowo announced that he and his running mate, Hatta Rajasa, rejected the election result and pulled out from the ongoing process due to alleged foul play by the General Elections Commission (KPU). (fss/ebf)
