For standup comedian Pandji Pragiwaksono, reading books is a crucial element for supporting his career as a performer and an entertainer.

'I love to read books, although sometimes I feel that the quality of books I read are a bit inferior to the complicated ones read by my friends. I read books whenever
I feel that the content is something I need to write my comedic routine material,' Pandji told The Jakarta Post .

'For example, if I want to take a shot at child education issues in my routines, then I will look for a book on it. I also read a lot of marketing books to hone my skills in introducing my products to the public.'

As a graduate of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) School of Design, Pandji said that reading a lot of marketing books helped him a lot in shifting his paradigm on selling his art and on how he could live through his work.

One of the most crucial pieces of knowledge Pandji had gained from reading marketing books is 'self branding', a method he has been using in many of his product launches and stand-up show promotions.

'I believe that people will buy your products because they like you as a person. You might not have the most outstanding product in the world, but if your personal branding works and people like you, you can sell them anything,' he said.

Pandji's personal branding method that he has gained from reading marketing books has so far brought him to become the first Indonesian standup comedian to conduct a world tour.

Purple Cow
by Seth Godin

This is the book that basically changed my mindset about marketing. Basically, Seth says that if you are not remarkable enough, then nobody is going to talk about you. If we see a purple cow in a paddy field filled with ordinary cows, then we will always remember that particular one and we will talk about it to our friends.

Guns, Germs, and Stell
by Jared Diamond

This book brought back my interest to read further on history, social science and politics. This is a very good book in my opinion.

THE Future of Freedom
by Farid Zakaria

I love how he writes history and politics in a storytelling manner in this book. He literally tells the whole story of the world from its beginning until the present day in a very interesting manner.
