President-elect Joko âJokowiâ Widodo says he would prefer his future ministers to use existing official cars rather than Mercedes-Benz sedans recently purchased by the State Secretariat
resident-elect Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo says he would prefer his future ministers to use existing official cars rather than Mercedes-Benz sedans recently purchased by the State Secretariat.
'I already told the secretariat. Once I was called [about the purchase] and I said just use the old ones, they're still in good condition,' he said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.
Jokowi said he wanted his aides to prioritize efficiency in the daily use of the state budget and not be spoiled with new state facilities.
The State Secretariat announced PT Mercedes-Benz Indonesia the winner of a tender to provide official cars for new ministers, the former president and vice president, with a maximum allocation of Rp 104.4 billion (US$8.87 million) from state coffers.
However, the departing Jakarta governor said he could not do anything about it at the moment and had no plans for the purchased cars.
'[The procurement] isn't part of my authority,' he said.
