ndonesian shuttlers won four out of five gold medals up for grabs on the final day of the Yonex Sunrise Indonesian Masters 2014 on Sunday at the Dempo Sports Hall in Palembang, South Sumatra.

The four gold medals came from Puspa Irawati/Vita Marissa in the women'€™s doubles, Adrianti Firdasari in the women'€™s singles, Riky Widianto/Puspita Richi Dili in the mixed doubles and Gideon Markus Fernaldi/Markis Kido in the men'€™s doubles.

The only gold medal the Indonesian team failed to secure was in the men'€™s singles event, after Firman Abdul Kholik was defeated by India'€™s HS Prannoy.

Shendy Puspa Irawati/Vita Marissa secured the first gold medal in the women'€™s doubles after outplaying younger compatriots Hanadia KN/Permatasari 23-21, 21-13.

In the men'€™s singles, junior shuttler Firman, who faced Youth Olympic Games silver medalist Prannoy, struggled to overcome the Indian'€™s smashes. Prannoy defeated Firman 11-21, 20-22.

'€œThis is my first international tournament. Even though I lost, I'€™m quite satisfied [with how I played]. He was stronger and faster,'€ said 17-year-old Firman.

In the women'€™s singles, Adrianti Firdasari bested compatriot Ruselli Hartawan, showing she was always in control with a score of 21-14, 21-14.

Adrianti, ranked 37th in the world, dominated the match from the outset with her deadly smashes, while Ruselli made many mistakes that saw her lose points.

However, Adrianti, recently recovered from a knee injury, said Ruselli had played well.

'€œThis is my first time winning a tournament this year. I hope I can play better in the future and win more medals,'€ said Adrianti, who will compete at the French Open Super Series from Oct. 21 to Oct. 26.

She said she had easily advanced to the final as no high-ranking players had participated in the tournament.

'€œI think they'€™re busy preparing themselves for the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea,'€ said Adrianti.

The two remaining events saw all-Indonesian finals. In the mixed doubles event, Riky Widianto/Puspita Richi Dili faced Muhammad Rijal/Vita Marissa, with the former outplaying the latter 21-18, 21-19.

In the men'€™s singles Gideon Markus Fernaldi/Markis Kido defeated Selvanus Geh/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo 21-17, 22-20.

Puspita said her win did not match up to victories in other tournaments. '€œThere are many higher-level tournaments. I have to maintain my spirit to achieve better things,'€ she said.

The 2014 Indonesian Masters saw 230 athletes from 13 countries, namely Australia, Canada, China Taipei, England, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Thailand and the US vie for a total US$125,000 in prize money.
