AKARTA: The group SIMPONI has won the '€œSounds of Freedom Award'€ organized by London-based band One Law for All, for its song '€œSister in Danger'€.

'€œWe dedicate the song to the victims of sexual violence in Indonesia and the world, as well as the activists promoting gender justice,'€ band manager M. Berkah Gamulya said in a statement on Monday.

SIMPONI, short for Sindikat Musik Penghuni Bumi (Syndicate of Music of the Earth Habitants) also received points for giving free concerts at schools and universities to promote gender justice and awareness of sexual violence.

The band comprises vocalist Rendy Ahmad (left) and drummer Teuku Khaiqal (both currently appearing on screen in Garuda 19), guitarists Bayu Agni and Sakti Sanjaya, and bassist Rama Prayudha.
