Golkar to invite Jokowi to anniversary bash

T

he Golkar Party will invite Joko Widodo to its golden anniversary commemoration ceremony in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on October 28, an associate chairman of the party said.

'€œWe have not sent an official invitation to him, but we hope he attends the event [after the presidential inauguration],'€ Rully Chairul Azwar stated here on Saturday, following a press conference at the party headquarters regarding the 50th anniversary celebrations.

The party'€™s golden anniversary, in fact, falls on October 20, but as the inauguration of President-elect Joko Widodo and Vice- President-elect Jusuf Kalla is scheduled for the same day, the celebration was postponed to October 28.

Furthermore, Azwar expressed hope that Jokowi, as the president-elect is popularly known, delivers a speech before party members at the event.

'€œThis could also serve as a forum for Jokowi and our cadres from across Indonesia to build good relations,'€ he noted.

The commemoration event will be marked by a political speech by the General Chairman of the Golkar Party, Aburizal Bakrie, and also a presentation appreciating the contribution of several members of the party, among other programs.

The party plans to invite some 6,000 guests, including party cadres from across the country, as well as political leaders from both the Red-White coalition and the Great Indonesia coalition.
