ormer State Intelligence Agency (BIN) chief AM Hendropriyono, who was also previously involved in President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's election campaign team as an advisor, has said that he did not intervene in the appointment of his son as a commissioner for the nation's largest cellular operator, state-owned Telkomsel.
Hendropriyono said the public was free to judge his son's capability to be a commissioner for Telkomsel, a unit of Indonesia's top telecommunications firm Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom).
'I don't know. I did not intervene. As long as the capabilities are there, the education is sufficient, I guess it's up to those who judge. But I have never intervened in affairs related to my family. It's up to the President,' Hendropriyono told reporters at the State Palace after a meeting with Jokowi on Monday, as quoted by kompas.com.
Telkomsel's shareholders meeting appointed Diaz Hendropriyono, Heri Sunaryadi, Mukhlis Moechtar, Paul Dominic O'Sullivan and Yuen Kuan Moon as commissioners. Ririek Ardiansyah has also been appointed as Telkomsel president director, replacing Alex Janangkih Sinaga.
Diaz was involved in Jokowi-Jusuf Kalla's campaign trail during last year's election. He was chairman of the 'Kawan Jokowi' (Friends of Jokowi) group and of the 'Gerak Cepat' (Quick Move) Jokowi-Kalla website. (***)
