he Russian team that participated in the Search and Rescue (SAR) operation for AirAsia flight QZ8501 have detected a number of debris from the Airbus A320 plane, which struck the waters off Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan on Dec. 28, 2014.
The Russian team detected the objects from its Beriyev BE-200 plane.
"They did not tell us any details about the debris, but they said that the objects are pretty big and they are red, orange, and white in color. They also found a black square,' Iskandar Muda military air base chief Lt. Col. Johnson Simatupang said in Pangkalan Bun on Tuesday as quoted by kontan.co.id.
Johnson said that the Air Force has sent one of its Superpuma helicopters to the search area where the Russian team detected the debris likely a part of the AirAsia A320 jet, which claimed 162 lives when it crashed.
The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) chief Air Chief Marshal FH Bambang Soelistyo added that the joint SAR team would also check the area.
Bambang hoped that they would be able to recover more debris from the aircraft and the bodies of the people on board flight QZ8501 on Tuesday despite bad weather in Central Kalimantan.
As of the tenth day of the operation, the joint SAR team, including those from Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and the US, had recovered 37 bodies with13 of them having been identified by the National Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) unit. (nfo)(+++)
