ouse of Representatives Speaker Setya Novanto has said that lawmakers would be able to wrap up deliberation of the government regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) that reinstates the direct election of regional heads.

Then president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono issued the Perppu following public outcry over his party'€™s decision to support a move annulling the direct election of local heads.

'€œOur target is to get this thing done by the end of the current sitting session in February,'€ Setya said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Setya said that the draft of the Perppu was currently being discussed by the House'€™s steering committee (Bamus).

In October, Yudhoyono issued two separate Perppu aimed at reinstating the direct election of regional heads, which had been abolished and replaced by indirect elections during a House plenary meeting. (***)
