Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister Indroyono Soesilo inspected a hybrid power plant and solar panel installation at New Pandansimo Beach in Bantul, Yogyakarta, on Friday.
"Minister Indroyono's visit is related to the regional innovation model and the wind turbine located on the beach," Bantul Fishery and Maritime Service secretary Imam Subardiasa said as quoted by Antara news agency.
New Pandansimo Beach has been earmarked as an area for conducting renewable energy research, pioneered by the Research and Technology and Higher Education Ministry and jointly managed by the Bantul administration and Gadjah Mada University.
In February, the minister visited several development and research centers of the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry in Bandung, West Java.
Indroyono is seeking assistance in formulating a prototype for reverse osmosis, an instrument to distill saline into fresh water in the villages of Pandeglang, Banten and Segaranakan in Cilacap, Central Java. (hhr)(+++)
