President Joko '€œJokowi'€ Widodo launched the groundbreaking of the construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road (JTTS) serving Bakauheni-Terbanggi Besar route in Sabahbalau village, South Lampung on Thursday.

The president said he hoped the construction of the JTTS Lampung-South Sumatra could be completed within three years.

'€œOnce the construction of both this toll road and the Bakauheni quay is completed, the flow of people and goods from Java to Sumatra will be faster. These two infrastructure facilities will allow for lower transportation costs, which will eventually lead to cheaper commodity prices,'€ said Jokowi.

He said the central government had allocated between Rp 40 trillion (US$3.08 billion) and Rp 45 trillion to develop the 256 kilometer-long Lampung-South Sumatra toll road, with an assumption that every kilometer would cost in between Rp 80 billion to Rp 100 billion. (ebf) (++++)
