yamsudin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, is being expanded to accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year, state airport management company PT Angkasa Pura I president director Tommy Soetomo says.
"Once the expansion project is completed, the airport will be able to accommodate 10 million passengers per year," Soetomo said as quoted by Antara news agency on Sunday.
Soetomo made the remarks ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion project led by Vice President Jusuf Kalla on Monday.
Last year, the airport served only 3.7 million passengers, far beyond the airport's capacity of only 1.3 million passengers, he said.
Soetomo said that Syamsudin Noor Airport, located in Banjarbaru, 24 kilometers to the west of Banjarmasin, would be expanded from 6,600 square meters to 125,00 square meters. (hhr)
