The city administration is planning to clear all slums in the capital by 2019.
To meet the target, Jakarta Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said that the city administration would work together with the Public Housing and Public Works Ministry under a planning program called 100-0-100.
Djarot explained that the name of the program referred to the program's targets to achieve 100 percent drinkable water in Jakarta's pipes, zero percent slums in the city and 100 percent sanitation by the end of 2019.
'We are doing this to improve the health condition and the quality of residential areas in Jakarta,' he said, as quoted by kompas.com on Wednesday.
He said that the administration's short-term goal was to update its data on slum areas in Jakarta to map out the existence of slums in the capital. (edn/ika)
