he immigration office in Bekasi, West Java, said Saturday that from Wednesday to Friday it had arrested 30 foreigners who had no proper immigration documents.

Bekasi immigration head Eko Putranto said that the foreigners, consisting of 19 Japanese, eight South Koreans, two Chinese and one Malaysian, might be deported to their respective countries for failing to show their residence permits.

'€œThey violated immigration law for failing to show residence permits,'€ he said on Saturday as quoted by tempo.co.

He added that the expatriates were arrested during immigration raids at several hotels, apartments and companies where they worked.

He said the officers had confiscated the foreigners'€™ passports. '€œWe will schedule interrogations for them. After we prove [their violations], we will deport them.'€

He also said that Bekasi has become a popular destination for foreigners in Indonesia because it hosts many foreign companies. He said it was not a problem for foreigners to work there as long as they had proper immigration documents.

'€œWe will continuously conduct raids,'€ he said.
