fter traveling for nearly 23 hours from Jakarta, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo arrived in California, the US, on Sunday afternoon to attend the ASEAN-US Summit.
Jokowi and First Lady Iriana arrived at Palm Springs International Airports in California at 5 p.m. local time on Sunday.
Indonesian Ambassador to the US Budi Bowoleksono and US assistant chief of protocol Gladys Boluda welcomed Jokowi and his entourage at the airport.
Jokowi and his delegation left Jakarta on Sunday, with transits in Guam and Honolulu before landing in the mainland US.
From the airport, Jokowi headed to Indian Wells for the ASEAN-US Summit held from Feb. 15 to 16.
In the meeting, Indonesia was to highlight its desire for the establishment of stronger partnership and prosperity between ASEAN and US, Jokowi said in a press conference at Halim Perdanakuma Airport prior to departure on Sunday.
"The ASEAN-US partnership should bring balanced benefits for the welfare of the people of ASEAN and the US", he said.
Jokowi is scheduled to lead a discussion session on terrorism, sharing Indonesia's experience as the largest Muslim-majority country the world in the fight against terrorism.
He will also encourage the enhancement of economic cooperation for small and medium enterprises, entrepreneurship and the development of the digital economy.
After the summit, Jokowi and his entourage will continue the trip to San Francisco to deliver a keynote address at the US-ASEAN Business Council scheduled to be held on Feb. 17.
The President will also visit global technology center Silicon Valley, meeting the chief executive officers of information technology giants.
Jokowi visited the US in October, meeting US President Barrack Obama, but cut short his trip to return to Indonesia as the country’s haze crisis deteriorated. (rin)
