win from Anthony Ginting of Indonesia in the men's singles on Thursday secured a solid 3-0 victory against the Hong Kong team, earning Indonesia a semifinals spot in the Badminton Asia Team Championships 2016 in Hyderabad, India.
Anthony outclassed Hong Kong's Ka Long Angus Ng 25-23, 21-14 in the quarterfinals round, following the success of Tommy Sugiarto who beat Hu Yun 21-18, 21-13, as well as Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan who beat Chin Chung Or/Chun Man Tang 24-26, 21-17, 21-19 in the men's doubles, in earlier matches.
'I was more offensive in the first game because I was benefited by the wind,' Anthony said as quoted by the Indonesian Badminton Association's (PBSI) website, badmintonindonesia.org.
'Nevertheless, my big error for today was in making returns. I have to fix that,' he added.
Playing the opener of the day, Tommy, who brought good vibes for the team, said his domination against Yun's attack was key to his victory.
Meanwhile, Olympians Ahsan/Hendra, who had to deal with a rubber match to earn the winning point, said they were challenged by their left-handed opponents.
'We found difficulties in controlling the ball,' said Hendra.
The Hyderabad meet also serves as a qualifying round for the upcoming Thomas Cup and Uber Cup tournaments in May. The Thomas Cup is the world men's team championship while the Uber Cup is for women.
The Indonesian men are set to face either India or Malaysia in the semifinals round on Saturday.
In the women's side, Indonesia was set to meet China in the Friday evening.
In the round robin on Thursday, Indonesia was beaten 4-1 by Korea. The only Indonesian women's win was contributed by Fitriani, who knocked out Hyo Min Kim in 14-21, 21-16, 21-19.
In four earlier matches that day, Chinese women's singles Ji Hyun Sung and Yeon Ju Bae respectively overpowered Maria Febe Kusumastuti with 21-6, 19-21, 21- 13 and Lindaweni Fanetri with 21-7, 21-16.
In the doubles, Kyung Eun Jung/Seung Chan Shin beat Greysia Polii/Rosyita Eka Putri Sari 21-10, 21-17 while Ye Na Chang/So Hee Lee beat Della Destiara Haris/Nitya Krishinda Maheswari 21-11, 21-17.
