View all search resultsresident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo says the government will discuss the revocation of the Soccer Association of Indonesia’s (PSSI) suspension with world soccer governing body FIFA, which now has a new leader.
“FIFA has elected a new chairman. We will send an envoy to discuss the removal of the PSSI suspension with him,” Jokowi said on Monday. He referred to Gianni Infantino, who was elected FIFA president during an extraordinary session of the FIFA Congress on Friday.
Jokowi said the revocation of the PSSI suspension would be decided after the meeting. He refused to give details on when the government’s meeting with the FIFA leader would take place.
“Of course, it [the revocation] will be carried out soon after our meeting with FIFA about the PSSI,” the President said. “We will do it as fast as possible. We already have the roadmap.”
Earlier, Youth and Sports Minister Imam Nahrawi said his ministry needed more time to conduct a thorough study before deciding to revoke PSSI suspension.
The government suspended the PSSI on April 18, 2015 because of a prolonged conflict between the association and the ministry. (ebf)
