ali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport was closed for four hours on Wednesday to allow for runway maintenance due to flaking asphalt.

As a result of the shutdown, the international airport in the provincial capital of Denpasar would not accommodate any departures or arrivals until 10 p.m. local time, Ngurah Rai airport spokesperson Rai Sherly said on Wednesday.

Tribun-bali.com reported that 89 flights had been delayed, including 16 domestic departures and 31 domestic arrivals.

Twenty international departures and 22 international arrivals were also affected.

Ngurah Rai airport general manager Trikora Harjo said flaking asphalt on Runway 09 had forced the airport to close.

The shutdown began at 6:07 p.m. and was expected to end at 9:50 p.m. local time, in accordance with a Notice to Airmen published by Airnav. (afr/bbn)
