The Indonesian team took home two gold medals at the international dragon boat championship in Nanning, China.
The red-and-white team recorded the fastest times in the men’s 200-meter and 500-m races in the two-day sporting event from June 11 to 12, in which Chinese dragon boat teams and teams from ASEAN countries were participating.
“Our athletes performed well during the race even though they were fasting,” Indonesian team leader Nurdin Purnomo said as quoted by Antara news agency in a statement on Monday.
The Indonesian men’s team clocked 47.10 seconds, outpacing home teams from the Guangxi National University and Dongguan Jun Ma province that came in second and third with 48.57 seconds and 49.76 seconds, respectively.
In the men’s 500-m race, the 12-strong team finished at 17.29 seconds to win the race. Trailing in second and third place were the Guangxi National University team with 21.08 seconds and Dongguan team with 21.53 seconds.
Two days earlier, the Indonesian team came out the overall champion in the Hakka International dragon boat championship in Kaifeng, Henan, China, beating participants from China, South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong. (dmr)
