aw and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly says his ministry has yet to receive confirmation from the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) on the date for a third round of executions of death row convicts.
The AGO has said the executions will take place on Nusakambangan prison island in Cilacap regency, Central Java, which is under the ministry’s auspices.
“Basically, Nusakambangan […] is ready to hold the executions. But, for further information about the executions, people should ask the AGO,” the minister said.
Attorney General Muhammad Prasetyo previously said that the date of the executions would be decided after Idul Fitri, which fell a week ago.
The Central Java Police said the executions could be conducted at any time as the prison had prepared 150 staff for the task, including personnel from the police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob) and religious clerics to accompany the convicts.
The police said that of the 15 inmates, 10 are foreigners and five are Indonesian citizens. (wnd/ary)
