fforts continue to free the two Indonesian hostages still held captive by Abu Sayyaf militants in the Philippines, Defense Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu said on Monday.
“The two hostages are in a healthy condition and the government is committed to the safe release of the two men,” the minister told reporters at the House of Representatives complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Two men currently being held by Abu Sayyaf are Robin Peter and M. Nasir, crew members of the tugboat Charles who were taken hostage by the militant group on June 21.
More detailed information will later be released by Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi and Indonesian Military (TNI) commander Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo, he added.
Three Indonesian sailors held by Abu Sayyaf, namely Ferry Arifin, M. Mahbur Dahlan and Edi Suryono, were released on Oct. 1. (win/bbn)
