he Aceh Police bomb squad has defused a homemade bomb placed in front of a door of Vihara Buddha Tirta, a Buddhist temple in Pusong, Lhok Seumawe, Aceh, on Sunday.
The bomb was found at 8: 30 a.m. local time by Aliong when he opened the door of the temple on Jl. Cut Mutia, Pusong Lama subdsitrict, Banda Sakti district.
The bomb squad managed to defuse the bomb at 10:30 a.m. Police officers then checked all rooms of the temple to ensure the temple was free of any other explosive material.
“The bomb may have been placed at 5 or 6 a.m. when the area was still quiet,” Lhok Seumawe Adj. Sr. Corm. Hendri Budiman, said at the temple on Sunday, adding that it was an attempt to shatter interfaith harmony in the area.
“We hope that the people remain calm and are not provoked to engage in religious conflict,” Hendri added.
The temple is located next to Batak Christian Protestant Church (HKBP) in Lhok Seumawe. (bbn)
