akarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama has cancelled his routine visit to his campaign headquarters in Menteng, Central Jakarta, to meet with his supporters because of traffic congestion caused by a rally against him in the National Monument (Monas) park.
The Ahok campaign's public relations officer, Clara Tampubolon, said on Friday that the governor did not go to the headquarters, called Rumah Lembang, on the urging of his campaign team.
“He intended to come, but we strongly advised him not to as it is hard to reach Menteng from Pantai Mutiara [Ahok’s housing complex in Pluit, North Jakarta], so he could not come on time,” she said.
Clara said Ahok and his running mate, Deputy Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat, would not do any campaigning today as advised by National Police chief Tito Karnavian and Indonesia Military chief Gen. Gatot Nurmantyo to safeguard citizens.

Residents who had already flocked the headquarters were also asked to go home, but there was no heavy protection at Rumah Lembang.
In a rally on Nov. 4, Ahok’s neighborhood became the target of a group of protesters. People looted a minimarket near his housing complex in the evening. (jun)
