he Surabaya Corruption Court began on Tuesday the trial of former state enterprises minister Dahlan Iskan who is being charged with graft related to the selling of 33 assets that belonged to the East Java province-owned company PT Panca Wira Usaha.

Dahlan, who allegedly committed the graft when he was the company’s president director from 2000 to 2010, was accompanied by his lawyer Yusril Ihza Mahendra in the hearing.

“There are three lawyers from Jakarta and three from Surabaya. Dahlan will be accompanied by six lawyers at every hearing,” Yusril told reporters before the trial began.

Previously, Dahlan, who owns the Jawa Pos Media group, was temporarily detained in Medaeng penitentiary, but was released before the trial began. He is now under city detention.

Dahlan has denied the accusation, saying that he just signed documents prepared by his subordinates. (jun)
