irport operator PT Angkasa Pura II informed the public that the flight traffic at the new Terminal 3 in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang was running normally on Thursday despite the ceiling falling in the arrivals area near a health post at about 10 a.m.
The operator immediately cordoned off the area littered with ceiling debris and cleaned it up.
The airport's senior general manager, Suriawan Wakan, apologized to passengers and other visitors for the inconvenience the incident caused.
He said the airport and the contractor, a consortium called Kawahapejaya Indonesia, would investigate the cause of the collapse. Suriawan said on Thursday, as quoted by Warta Kota, that the maintenance of Terminal 3 was still in the hands of the consortium led by state-owned contractor Wijaya Karya.
The consortium's Terminal 3 project manager,Yulianto, said there was some work being done on the ducts in the ceiling before it collapsed. (evi)
