AKARTA: State-owned construction company PT Wijaya Karya (Wika) has been selected as the main contractor of the light rapid transit (LRT) project stretching from Kelapa Gading in North Jakarta to the Velodrome sport complex in East Jakarta.
Wika corporate secretary Suradi said on Wednesday that the value of the contract for the 6-kilometer LRT line was Rp 5.29 trillion (US$391.46 million). The route is expected to be in full operation before the 2018 Asian Games.
Suradi said Wika’s main jobs were to build foundations, rail systems, depots and stations.
“We are also responsible to design the signaling system and create a control center and a ticketing system,” he said in a statement.
He added that all the work would be complete in less than two years.
