ational Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian has called on those who bought copies of Jokowi Undercover, a book with alleged defamatory content about President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, not to make copies and circulate it further. He has asked the book owners to instead hand over their copies to the police.

Citing the writer of the book, Bambang Tri Mulyono, Tito said 300 copies of Jokowi Undercover had been circulated.

“Those who have copies of the book are encouraged to hand them over to us as evidence,” Tito said on the sidelines of a visit to Bhayangkara Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, on Friday.

“Those who reproduce the book will be charged with violating the 2008 ITE [Electronic Information and Transactions] Law for distributing false information”.

The National Police are investigating the case after they arrested the book author, Bambang, and named him a suspect for allegedly providing false and unreliable information in the book. The writer failed to provide reliable data to support the content of his book, the police said. They are currently looking for parties responsible for publishing the book as the author was considered incapable to have either written the book or provided the information.

Apart from searching for more witnesses to hunt down the possible publishing masterminds, Tito said the police would accelerate their investigation into the Jokowi Undercover book so they could be brought to court. (ebf)
