T

he Association of Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers (Gaikindo) will showcase the latest automotive technology from renowned global car producers, including a prototype of an autonomous vehicle, during its annual car exhibition in August.

Almost all the world’s major car producers, such as Audi, Honda and Lexus, will take part in the 11-day Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), Gaikindo chair Yohanes Nangoi told a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The expo, which will take place from Aug. 10 to Aug. 20 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) city, Tangerang, takes “The Rise of Future Mobility” as its theme.

At least 27 carmakers will showcase their latest models at the expo, which is organized by Seven Event, a Jakarta-based event organizer.  

“We also hope to see concept and world premier cars from famous brands at the expo,” Seven Event project manager Agus Riyadi said.

“Therefore, we also expect to show the advancement of Indonesia’s automotive technology to the world through the expo,” he added.

Indonesia is among the largest automotive markets in Southeast Asia. The country’s car sales reached 1.06 million cars in 2016 and are projected to slightly increase to 1.1 million cars this year. (ecn/hwa)
