ozens of divers cleaned up the waters around Pramuka Island in Thousand Islands regency on Saturday to commemorate National Waste Awareness Day, which fell on Feb. 21.

A total of 40 divers managed to collect around 80 kilograms of rubbish, which mostly consisted of cans, bottles, plastic bags and used tires.

Thousand Islands regency secretary Eric Pahlevi Zakaria Lumbun said the divers were divided into three groups and they dove to depths of up to 12 meters.

“This act of awareness was also accompanied by mangrove planting activities on the western side of the island,” Eric said as quoted by beritajakarta.com. (wnd/ebf)
