First Lady visits Riau to monitor health, education programs

irst Lady Iriana Joko “Jokowi” Widodo visited an early age education (PAUD) facility in Pekanbaru, Riau, during a working visit to the province on Wednesday.

The First Lady and her entourage arrived at Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru at 9:40 a.m. local time and directly went to the PAUD Mekar Jaya on Jl. Hang Tuah, Antara reported.

After visiting the education center, Iriana observed the delivery of cervical cancer screening, held by the Riau Health Agency at Lima Puluh Market in Pekanbaru.

Mufidah Jusuf Kalla and other wives of several Cabinet ministers participating in a solidarity movement of the wives of ministers in President Jokowi’s working Cabinet, accompanied the First Lady.  

Iriana is also scheduled to meet 1,800 PAUD teachers currently attending a training program at the Riau Islamic University’s sports stadium.

Together with Riau Narcotics Agency (BNN) officials, First Lady Iriana is also scheduled to discuss the dangers of narcotics with 1,600 senior high school students at the Tribuana Sports Stadium in Pekanbaru. In the last leg of her visit, she will visit the Riau Handicrafts Council on Jl. Si Singamangaraja.

The Riau Police have beefed up security during the First Lady’s visit. “We have deployed 540 personnel to secure the visit,” said Riau Police chief Insp. Gen. Zulkarnain Adinegara. (rdi/ebf)
