he North Jakarta District Court is scheduled to hand down its verdict on Jakarta Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama, who is being tried for alleged blasphemy, on May 9.
“Based on the schedule, we will hand down the decision on May 9. We order [the prosecutors] to present the defendant in the hearing,” judge Dwiarso Budi Santiarto said after the governor and his lawyers delivered their defense at the North Jakarta District Court on Tuesday.
According to the initial schedule, the prosecutors were to deliver their response to the lawyers’ defense the following week, after which a final defense would be conveyed.
However, during the hearing on Tuesday, prosecutor Ali Mukartono said the prosecutors would not respond to the defense because the governor and his lawyers did not present new facts.
The prosecutors’ response would be unnecessary considering the court had earlier postponed the hearing, he further said.
The court previously adjourned the hearing from April 11 to April 20 as the prosecutors said they had not finished outlining the sentence.
