anyoto Sastrowardoyo, former investment minister and Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) chairman during the New Order, died at the age of 80 on Wednesday at the Medistra Hospital in South Jakarta.

BKPM chairman Thomas Lembong gave his condolences to the bereaved family. “On behalf of the BKPM, I convey my condolences. May the family be given strength,” he said as quoted by antaranews.com.

Sanyoto was buried at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, South Jakarta, on Thursday.

Born in Purwokerto on May 31, 1936, Sanyoto pursued a Master’s in electrical engineering at Syracuse University, New York, in 1958 and graduated four years later.

Sanyoto started his government career in 1962 as an Industry Ministry official.

The father of three served the government until the fall of Soeharto in 1998. (mrc/bbs)
