Dukuh Atas on Jl. Sudirman in Central Jakarta will be the first station to integrate five different transportation modes.
The station currently serves passengers of the commuter line train and the busway.
The station will also serve passengers of the airport train in 2017, the MRT and light rail transit (LRT) in 2019, said PT Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta operations and maintenance director Agung Wicaksono in Jakarta on Wednesday.
"Based on the Jakarta administration's 'transit-oriented development' rule, we will build a [larger] integrated station to accommodate passengers of the transportation modes," Agung said.
He explained that the left and right lanes of Jl. Sudirman would be converted into pedestrian areas, leaving four of the current six lanes with the hope that Jakartans will stop relying on private vehicles.
Development of the MRT is 71.39 percent complete, accounting for 57.52 percent of seven elevated stations and 85.39 percent of six underground stations.
"For elevated stations, we had problems with land acquisition, but it is almost clear, with a few case being settled in the court. We are sure we can reach 90 percent progress by the end of 2017," Agung said. (bbn)
