ndonesia’s Under 19 squad came home early from an international soccer tournament, the 2017 Toulon Tournament in Provence, France, but winger Egy Maulana Vikri received an honor for his influential performance.

Indonesia, which represented Asia along with Bahrain and Japan, was in Group C in the invitational event with the Czech Republic, Scotland and Brazil. Indonesia lost in all three matches of the group stage, scoring 1-0 against Brazil, 2-0 against the Czech Republic and 2-1 against Scotland.

Despite losing the group stage, Egy was awarded with the Jouer Revelation Trophee, a trophy dedicated to an influencer in a team. According to the Soccer Association of Indonesia (PSSI), top soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo and former star player Zinedine Zidane had also received the trophy.

“I’m really honored to receive the trophy. I didn’t see it coming; I just played my best for the team. To come home with the trophy is a bonus for me,” said Egy. The Indonesian squad is set to touch down in Jakarta on Thursday afternoon.

Coach Indra Sjafri said he was satisfied with his players’ hard work throughout the competition.

“We learned a lot during our participation in Toulon. We actually are not far behind European soccer. As long as we can stay consistent, I’m optimistic that we can give birth to a new generation of Indonesian soccer,” said Indra.
