o properly store the very first Indonesian flag, which was sewn together by then first lady Fatmawati in 1945, the city administration has acquired a temperature-controlled, bulletproof glass case.
The storage case is equipped with a hydraulic system that allows it to be moved up and down. The 12-centimeter thick glass case has been placed at the National Monument (Monas) in Gambir, Central Jakarta.
Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said the storage case would be inaugurated on Aug. 12 to coincide with the inauguration of the dancing water fountain that had been "sleeping" for years.
“Alhamdulillah [thank God], we have completed the storage case these past two years and on Aug. 12 we will inaugurate it,” Djarot told journalists at Monas on Wednesday.
Previously, the historic flag was kept in an ordinary glass box.
