Hundreds of contract employees of Jakarta Transportation Agency and Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) staged a demonstration on Monday, demanding the government appoint them as permanent workers.
The coordinator of the protest, Heri, said 1,620 Satpol PP officers and 180 workers of the Transportation Agency had not been appointed as permanent employees.
"We want to voice our demands so that the contract workers who have long served the administration will be appointed as permanent workers," Heri said on Monday as quoted by kompas.com.
Some of the workers left their duties to participate in the protest, Heri said.
Roads near the Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry in South Jakarta, the site of the street protest, were closed in the morning. (cal)
