A mass wedding will see 534 couples tie the knot under the auspices of the Jakarta administration on New Year’s Eve.
City secretary Saefullah confirmed on Wednesday that 534 couples from 276 subdistricts of the capital were set to join the ceremony, which would be held at the park-and-ride facility on Jl. MH Thamrin in Central Jakarta.
Saefullah explained that each subdistrict head had been required to select two couples keen to participate in the ceremony, which is provided for free.
“The couples shall come from poor families,” he added.
The administration has also prepared dowries, procured by the Jakarta Muslim Charitable Donations Board (Bazis) in the form of Qurans and a set of prayer outfits for participants of the event. (vny)
