tate-Owned Enterprises Minister Rini Soemarno on Wednesday led a groundbreaking ceremony for state-owned lender Bank Rakyat Indonesia's (BRI) office tower project, called Menara BRI Gatot Subroto, in the city's main business district Mega Kuningan in South Jakarta.
The building is expected to be completed in early 2020.
"We [the government], as a shareholder, want the SOE to verify its assets so that it can be utilized for the interests of the people and of course for the company itself," said Rini in her speech.
Apart from utilizing the tower's office space for improving services for BRI customers, she added, management had to accommodate a hall of fame for BRI's notable figures.
The building is being constructed on Jl. Gatot Subroto. The location used to be the training center for the lender's employees when it was established in 1963.
Meanwhile, BRI's president director Suprajarto explained that the office space would be used by the company’s subsidiaries and other BRI working units, as they currently have to rent office space in other buildings.
"We hope that when it begins operation, the tower will boost our performance in providing services to our customers, who come from all levels of society." he said in a press statement, adding that some of the office spaces will be leased to other companies.
Suprajarto said the company would invest around Rp 1 trillion (US$74 million) for the initial construction of the tower that stands on an 8,600 square-meter plot of land. In addition to its 37 floors, the tower will also have five-basement levels. (srs/bbn)
