he Jakarta administration has torn down the Blora Market building to make way for the Dukuh Atas transit oriented development (TOD) in Central Jakarta, which is set to be begin on Jan. 30.
At least three heavy-duty machines had been deployed to demolish the old structure, built on a 3,100 square meter area, since Thursday morning, kompas.com reported.
Central Jakarta Mayor Mangara Pardede said fences would be installed around the location, and that the land would be handed over to PT MRT Jakarta to develop the TOD.
“The former Blora Market location will be used to build a transit plaza,” Mangara said.
The plaza will be a 20-story building, and will also house the MRT office, Smart City command center and city planning gallery.
In addition to establishing the transit plaza, MRT Jakarta director William Sabandar said previously that he planned to develop sidewalks in the ex-market area to assist future MRT passengers wanting to switch to different modes of transportation.
A park will also be built in the area. (vny)
