To mark Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14, alternative cinema café Kinosaurus Jakarta is presenting a love-themed program this February, exploring the idea of love from various perspectives.
The cinema café is presenting various films from different countries such as France, Denmark and Indonesia in various sub-themes to talk about love from different angles.
Based on their main premises, the films in Kinosaurus Jakarta’s February program are divided into several sub-themes, namely: It’s Complicated, Romantic Reconciliation, Cinta Dalam Pusaran Politik (Love Amid a Political Maelstrom), Real Love and Ketika Cinta Bersemi (When Love Blossoms).
Highlights from It’s Complicated include Berbagi Suami (Husband for Share) by Indonesian filmmaker Nia Dinata, which discusses polygamy, as well as Posesif (Possessive) by Indonesian filmmaker Edwin, which addresses abusive relationships.
The Cinta Dalam Pusaran Politik sub-theme, meanwhile, highlights the film A Royal Affair by Danish filmmaker Nikolaj Arcel. It is about a young queen who starts a revolution with her illicit lover. The Romantic Reconciliation sub-theme features the wildly popular Ada Apa Dengan Cinta 2 (What’s Up With Cinta 2) by Indonesian filmmaker Riri Riza.
The Real Love segment features a Danish film called Key House Mirror by Michael Noer. It explores love and devotion among older people, telling the story of a married couple who live together in a nursing home, where the husband has been dependent on professional care after he suffered a stroke.
Romantic Reconciliation and Ketika Cinta Bersemi, meanwhile, feature two romantic dramas from Indonesia: Hari Untuk Amanda (A Day for Amanda) by Angga Dwimas Sasongko and Galih dan Ratna (Galih and Ratna) by Lucky Kuswandi.
