C

haotic parking along the legendary Pasar Baru shopping district in Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta, blocked fire trucks racing to a fire that gutted a textile shop on Tuesday afternoon.

The fire at Isardas, a two-story textile shop, started at around 4:20 p.m. According to the shop's employee, it began on the second floor and quickly spread, kompas.com reported.

Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency head of the fire and rescue department Syarifuddin said the fire trucks could not enter the complex because of illegally parked vehicles.

"Because of the unorganized parking, accessing the location was hampered. Thankfully, some of the fire trucks could go in," Syarifuddin said, adding that the agency deployed 27 fire trucks and managed to extinguish the fire at 5:30 p.m.

No casualties were reported.  (wnd)
