The third runner-up for Miss Tourism Indonesia 2017, Astira Intan Vernadeina, is currently in Cairo, the capital of Egypt, serving as the nation’s representative for the Miss Eco International 2018 pageant.
She arrived in the Egyptian capital on April 9 and on the next day began her three-week quarantine period as the Indonesian representative during this annual event, alongside fellow representatives from around 60 different countries.
Throughout her stay in Egypt, Astira and the other contestants will take part in a number of activities, such as presentations on sustainability and wearing their national dresses in places like Alexandria and Luxor.
Aside from being a contest for brains, beauty and behavior, Miss Eco International is also used as an occasion to promote sustainable and eco-friendly forms of tourism, as well as to raise awareness on issues like global warming.
“I am a bit groggy, especially since I will spend a full three weeks undergoing quarantine, but I will fight and will make the name of Indonesia beautiful,” Astira said.
