ourteen non-governmental organizations, comprising 10 surveying and four election monitors, have been involved in monitoring the South Sulawesi gubernatorial election on Wednesday.

Most of the institutions are to issue independent quick counts to give an early indication as to which candidate pair is likely to win the election.

The head of the South Sulawesi General Elections Commission (KPU), Misna M Attas, has called on the public, especially supporters of the contesting pairs, not to react to the results of the survey institutions' quick counts.

“Trust us, the election organizer, for the [actual] results of the election. Wait for the results of the actual vote count,” said Misna.

The South Sulawesi election body has established a data center at a Makassar hotel, where the public can access the KPU’s election data system from Wednesday to Saturday for the results of the votes counted at polling stations (TPS).

Four candidate pairs are contending for the seats of South Sulawesi governor and deputy governor: Nurdin Abdullah-Andi Sudirman Sulaiman, Ichsan Yasin Limpo-Andi Mudzakkar, Nurdin Halid-Aziz Qahhar Mudzakkar and Agus Arifin Nu'mang-Tanribali Lamo.

The latest data shows 6,022,000 votes were cast at 17,140 polling stations in 24 regencies and cities across the province. (dmr)
