Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan will fly to Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Saturday to attend the Urban 20 Mayors Summit (U20), during which leaders from G20 countries will discuss issues faced by big cities.
Anies is scheduled to return to Jakarta next Thursday.
The governor will hand over his tasks to City Secretary Saefullah while he is in Buenos Aires, given that the deputy governor position is still vacant.
The Jakarta Development Planning Board (Bappeda) head and a staff member of the Gubernatorial and Foreign Affairs ( KDH-KLN) Bureau will assist Anies at the event.
Facilitated by C40 Cities, the U20 is a new diplomatic initiative that aims to help cities develop collective messages and inclusive solutions to tackle global issues, such as climate change, the future of work and social integration.
The city’s 2018 budget sets aside Rp 54.5 billion (US$ 3.7 million) for city officials' work trips.
Rp 36.4 billion has been allocated for domestic work trips and Rp 18 billion for overseas trips. (cal)
