T

he Jakarta Police have hinted that HS, the sole suspect named in a mass murder case in Bekasi, West Java, had been motivated by revenge when he killed the family of four.

Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said on Friday that anger was a possible motive, as “[the suspect] was often scolded [by the family],” adding that HS was related to one of the victims, Maya Boru Ambarita.

Argo said that the suspect frequently stayed at the family’s house and the boarding house they managed. He also confirmed that, for the time being, HS was the only suspect named in the case.

“[HS] has been declared a suspect and we arrested him last night,” said Argo.

On Thursday night, the police tracked down the family’s Nissan X-Trail that was last seen parked in front of their house, which led them to HS.

Argo said that HS had stolen the car and fled to Garut, West Java. There, the police found HS resting in a hiking area, apprehended him and confiscated the keys to the Nissan, a cellphone and Rp 4 million in cash from him.

He said that the police were still looking for the murder weapon, a crowbar, which HS said he had thrown into the Kalimalang River in a signed confession.

Diperum Nainggolan, 38, his wife Maya, 37, and their two children Sarah Boru Nainggolan, 9, and Arya Nainggolan, 7, were found dead in their home on Tuesday.

The family's funeral was held on Wednesday in Samosir, North Sumatra.
