on-active Jambi governor and graft defendant Zumi Zola is set to attend the funeral of his father, Zulkifli Nurdin, in Jambi after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the corruption court granted him permission to temporarily leave prison on Thursday, his lawyer has said.

“Zumi has received permission from the court and he will be escorted by the KPK,” his lawyer, M. Farisi, said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

The KPK also allowed Zumi to pay his respects to his father at a funeral home in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Zulkifli, who served as Jambi governor for two terms, died of complications brought on by diabetes at age 70. He was buried at a family cemetery in Jambi City on Thursday afternoon.

During a hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court last month, Zumi pleaded guilty in two different cases.

KPK prosecutors have demanded the court to sentence him to eight years in prison for allegedly channeling Rp 16 billion (US$1.11 million) in bribes to dozens of Jambi Legislative Council members to influence the deliberations of the 2017 and 2018 provincial budgets.

He was also accused of accepting unlawful gifts amounting to more than Rp 40 billion in connection to infrastructure projects in Jambi in 2016 and last year .
